Our take on the Alexander Home Charlotte Modern Abstract Area Rug - 2'-8" x 4' - Runner/Rectangle

The Alexander Home Charlotte is a 2'-8" x 4' abstract area rug in a runner/rectangle shape, about 32 by 48 inches with a 0.25-inch pile. It is a small accent rug meant for doorways, kitchens, bathrooms or beside a bed, not a room-filling piece. Alexander Home sells it across several retailers, so the price moves with sales and coupons rather than staying fixed. Check the current best price against its recent range before buying, since discounts on this size are common.

Pros
  • Small footprint fits tight spaces like galley kitchens and hallways
  • Low 0.25-inch pile clears most doors and sits flat under furniture
  • Abstract pattern hides small stains and footprints
  • Easy to move, shake out and spot clean
  • Often discounted, so the price is rarely at full list
Cons
  • Too small for living rooms or under a dining table
  • Low pile feels thin underfoot, with little cushion
  • Needs a rug pad to stay put on hard floors
  • Pattern and color can vary from photos, and dye lots differ between orders

Questions and answers

Is this rug big enough for a living room?
No. At 2'-8" x 4' it is an accent or runner size, suited to doorways, kitchens, bathrooms or the side of a bed. For a living room you would want a much larger size in the same pattern.
Does it need a rug pad?
A pad is recommended on hardwood, tile or laminate. The backing is not grippy enough to stop sliding on smooth floors, and a pad also adds cushioning to the thin 0.25-inch pile.
How do I clean it?
Vacuum regularly and blot spills right away with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking it, and check the care label on the back before using any stronger cleaner.
Will it fit under a door?
At 0.25 inches thick, it clears most interior doors. Very low-clearance doors or those with tight sweeps may still drag, so measure the gap first.
When is the best time to buy?
Prices on this rug swing with retailer sales and coupon codes, so it is worth checking the price history and waiting for a dip rather than buying at list price.
Is the color true to the photos?
Mostly, but some owners report the pattern looking darker or more muted in person. Order from a store with easy returns in case the shade does not match your room.
What do buyers say about the Alexander Home Charlotte Modern Abstract Area Rug - 2'-8" x 4' - Runner/Rectangle?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 287 ratings.
