Pros
  • 80W RMS per speaker gives headroom for a modest amp
  • 1-inch dome tweeter adds treble detail over stock speakers
  • Woofer cone is polypropylene, glass fiber and mica for stiffness
  • Includes adapter rings, wire and mounting hardware
  • Rated to 40 kHz, so it suits high-res source material

  • Coaxial design puts the tweeter low, near the woofer
  • No crossover details published, so expect a basic inline setup

Questions and answers

Is the Alpine S2-S65 worth it over stock speakers?
Yes, if your factory speakers are basic paper-cone units. The S2-S65 adds a 1-inch dome tweeter and an 80W RMS woofer, which typically means more clarity and volume headroom. It is a modest upgrade, not a full component system.
Do I need an amplifier for these speakers?
No. At 80W RMS they run fine off most head units, which usually deliver 15 to 25W RMS per channel. An external amp will get more out of them but is not required.
Do the S2-S65 speakers come with grilles?
No. Grilles are not included, so plan to reuse factory grilles or buy aftermarket ones. The box has two speakers, two adapter rings, speaker wire, screws, nuts, washers, speed clips and a manual.
Will these fit my car's 6.5-inch openings?
They fit most vehicles with 6.5-inch or 6.75-inch speaker openings, and the included adapter rings help with some mounts. Check your car's speaker depth and mounting pattern before buying, since shallow doors can be tight.
How does the S2-S65 compare to the older S-Series S-S65?
The S2-S65 is the second-generation S-Series speaker, with the same 6.5-inch coaxial layout and 80W RMS rating. Alpine revised the cone and tweeter materials for the S2 line. Exact differences are best confirmed against Alpine's spec sheet.
When is the S2-S65 cheapest?
The best new price seen is $149.95 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, with four stores listing it new. Car audio tends to dip during holiday sales and car-audio promotions, so compare across stores before buying.
Where is the Alpine S2-S65 6.5" 2-Way Coaxial Speakers cheapest?
At Crutchfield, for $149.95, as of our latest check.
