Our take on the Apple iPad 10.2" 64GB

The iPad 10.2" is Apple's 2021 entry-level tablet, the ninth generation of the standard iPad. It pairs the A13 Bionic chip with a 10.2-inch 2160 x 1620 Retina display, a 12 MP front camera with Center Stage, and support for the first-generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard. This is the 64GB 4G model in Space Gray, weighing 17.2 oz. At $184.99 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, it sits well below what this model has typically sold for new, making it one of the cheapest ways into an iPad.

Pros
  • Large 10.2-inch Retina screen for the price
  • 12 MP front camera with Center Stage keeps you framed on video calls
  • A13 Bionic handles everyday apps and games smoothly
  • Works with Apple Pencil (1st gen) and Smart Keyboard
  • Cellular model adds 4G away from Wi-Fi
Cons
  • 64GB fills quickly with photos, apps and offline video
  • Design is dated: thick bezels, Lightning port, no USB-C
  • Only 3GB of RAM; heavy multitasking causes app reloads
  • First-gen Apple Pencil charges awkwardly via the Lightning port
  • No support for the newer Pencil or Magic Keyboard

Questions and answers

Is the 64GB iPad 10.2" enough storage?
For streaming, browsing and a handful of apps, yes. If you download movies, shoot lots of photos or play large games, 64GB fills up fast and there is no card slot to expand it.
Does it work with the Apple Pencil?
Yes, with the first-generation Apple Pencil, which charges by plugging into the Lightning port. It does not support the second-generation Pencil or the USB-C Pencil.
Is this the 9th generation iPad?
Yes. Apple released this 10.2-inch model in September 2021 as the ninth-generation iPad, with the A13 Bionic chip and a 12 MP front camera.
Can I use it with a keyboard?
It supports the Smart Keyboard for the 10.2-inch iPad and Bluetooth keyboards. It does not work with the Magic Keyboard made for iPad Air and Pro models.
Is the cellular model worth it over Wi-Fi?
Only if you need data away from Wi-Fi, for travel or commuting. The 4G model needs a carrier plan, and most buyers are fine tethering to a phone.
