Our take on the Apple iPad 6th Generation 9.7-inch 128GB

The iPad 6th Generation (2018) is Apple's 9.7-inch tablet with an A10 Fusion chip, a Retina display, and support for the original Apple Pencil. This 128GB cellular model is unlocked for GSM carriers and adds 4G LTE on top of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. At $105 at Walmart as of November 6, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against. It is a budget entry into iPadOS, but the hardware is now several generations old.

Questions and answers

Is the iPad 6th Generation still worth buying in 2026?
For basic streaming, browsing and note-taking at $105, yes. It will not keep up with demanding games or heavy multitasking, and it no longer gets the newest iPadOS features.
Does it work with the Apple Pencil?
Yes, but only the first-generation Apple Pencil. The second-generation Pencil and USB-C Pencil do not work with this model.
Is this cellular model unlocked?
Yes, it is listed as unlocked for GSM carriers. Check that your carrier uses GSM before buying, since CDMA-first networks may not work.
How much storage does it have?
128GB, which is plenty for apps, photos and offline video. There is no microSD slot, so storage cannot be expanded.
What is in the box?
Typically the iPad, a Lightning cable and a power adapter. The Apple Pencil is sold separately.
When is it cheapest?
At $105 at Walmart as of November 6, 2026, it is the only new listing, so there is no recent range to time a drop against. Older iPads usually fall around clearance and back-to-school sales.
Where is the Apple iPad 6th Generation 9.7-inch 128GB cheapest?
At Walmart, for $105.00, 49% off, as of our latest check.
