Is the iPad mini 4 still worth buying?

Only at a low price and for light use like reading, video and browsing. It cannot run the newest iPadOS, so check that the apps you need still support iOS 15 before buying.

How much storage does the 16GB model actually give me?

Expect roughly 11 to 12GB free after the system install. That is enough for a few apps and some books, but not a large video or game library.

Does it work with the Apple Pencil?

No. Apple Pencil support started with the iPad mini 5, so note-taking with a stylus is limited to third-party capacitive pens.

How does it compare to the iPad mini 5?

The mini 5 has a faster A12 chip, 3GB of RAM, Pencil support and a brighter display with True Tone. The mini 4 is cheaper but slower and no longer updated.

A used or leftover mini 4 typically ships with the tablet and a Lightning cable, and sometimes a charger. Confirm the accessories with the seller before ordering.

Prices for discontinued tablets drift down over time and spike around back-to-school and holiday sales. Compare listings across stores rather than assuming one price holds.

Our take on the Apple iPad mini 4 Tablet 16GB Wi-Fi Space Gray

The iPad mini 4 is Apple's 7.9-inch tablet from 2015, with an A9 chip, 2GB of RAM and a 1536 x 2048 IPS display. It is thin and light at about 0.66 lb, runs iPadOS 15 at most, and is best treated as a secondary reading and streaming device rather than a current tablet. The 16GB model is the tightest configuration Apple sold, with little room for apps, photos or offline video. It is long discontinued, so any price reflects used or leftover stock rather than a current retail listing.
