Is this MacBook Pro worth buying at $159?

At $159 at Distritech as of November 3, it is a cheap way to get a 15-inch Retina Mac. Check battery health and the SSD size first, since 256GB is small and repairs cost more than the laptop.

Is it faster than a MacBook Air?

The six-core Intel chip and AMD GPU beat older dual-core Airs for editing and multitasking. Newer Apple Silicon Airs are faster, cooler and have far better battery life.

How is the battery life?

Expect roughly 6 to 8 hours of light web and document use when the battery is healthy. Heavy editing drains it faster, and a used unit may need a battery replacement.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?

No. The RAM and SSD are soldered, so buy the 16GB and 256GB configuration as-is. Plan on external USB-C drives for large libraries.

What comes in the box?

Typically just the laptop and a USB-C power adapter and cable, depending on the seller. Confirm the charger is included before ordering.

Prices on this generation fall as sellers clear older stock, and listings like the $159 Distritech price as of November 3 are near the low end. Compare current listings before buying.
