Is a 1 oz Asahi silver bar a good buy?

It is a straightforward way to own physical silver at low cost per ounce compared with coins. Whether it is a good buy depends on the premium over spot you pay and your view on silver prices.

How much silver is in it?

One troy ounce, about 31.1 grams, of .999 fine silver. It is not a 1 oz avoirdupois measure.

Does it come with a certificate?

Yes. Asahi 1 oz bars ship in a sealed plastic assay card with the refiner's mark, weight and purity.

Can I sell it back easily?

Most coin shops and online dealers buy 1 oz Asahi bars, usually near spot minus a small margin. The sealed assay card helps.

Is it cheaper to buy a larger bar?

Yes, per ounce. A 10 oz or 100 oz bar typically carries a lower premium, but the 1 oz bar is easier to sell in small amounts.

When is the best time to buy?

Premiums and spot both fluctuate. Buying when premiums are low relative to other dealers matters as much as the spot price.

Our take on the Asahi Silver Bar 1 oz .999 Fine

A 1 troy ounce bar of .999 fine silver from Asahi Refining, stamped with weight and purity and sold in a sealed assay card. It is a plain bullion piece, so its value tracks the silver spot price plus a small premium rather than any collector appeal. Bars this size are the standard entry point for physical silver buyers. Premiums on 1 oz bars move with demand, so compare the total price against spot before buying.
