Is the Vivobook 15 worth it at $499?

Yes, if you need a basic 15.6-inch laptop with 16 GB RAM. At $499 at Best Buy as of November 3 it is near its recent low, and few rivals match the RAM and SSD at that price.

How does it compare with the Intel version?

The Ryzen 5 7530U model is close in everyday speed to the Intel Core i5 version and often costs less. Pick the Intel model only if you need Thunderbolt, which this one lacks.

How long does the battery last?

Expect about 6 to 8 hours of mixed browsing and video. Heavy video calls or gaming will drain it faster, so carry the charger for full days.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?

The 512 GB SSD is easy to swap, and there is a free M.2 slot on some configurations. RAM is soldered on many Vivobook 15 models, so buy the 16 GB version up front.

The laptop, a 45W power adapter and paperwork. There is no mouse or sleeve included.

It has dropped to around $450 during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. The current $499 is already close to that, so waiting rarely saves much.
