Our take on the Audioengine A5+ Wireless

The Audioengine A5+ Wireless is a powered bookshelf speaker pair with a built-in 24-bit DAC and Bluetooth, so it plays straight from a phone, computer or turntable without a separate amp. Each cabinet holds a 5-inch aramid-fiber woofer and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter driven by 150 W total peak power. The latest best new price is $399 at Audioengine as of November 3, 2026, at the low end of what these have sold for.

Best for
Desktop and computer listeners who want real stereo without an amp
Small rooms and apartments where a full hi-fi rack won't fit
Vinyl owners adding powered speakers with a built-in phono stage
Buyers who want Bluetooth plus wired inputs in one box
Pros
  • Built-in amplifier and DAC, so no receiver needed
  • Bluetooth 5.0 plus RCA, 3.5 mm aux and USB audio inputs
  • Built-in headphone amp and phono stage for a turntable
  • Hand-finished wood cabinets in bamboo, black or white
  • Compact enough for a desk or a shelf
Cons
  • No Wi-Fi streaming or AirPlay despite the wireless name
  • No HDMI, so not a clean fit for TV sound
  • Bass is modest for a 5-inch woofer; a sub helps
  • No room correction or tone controls beyond a volume knob
  • At $399 it costs more than most powered desktop pairs

Questions and answers

Is the A5+ Wireless worth $399?
At $399 at Audioengine as of November 3, 2026, it is a fair price for powered speakers with a DAC, phono stage and headphone amp built in. You pay for convenience and finish more than raw power.
How is it different from the older A5+?
The Wireless version adds Bluetooth and a better internal DAC to the wired A5+. If you only use a computer or turntable, the wired model saves money.
Does it have Wi-Fi or AirPlay?
No. Wireless here means Bluetooth 5.0 only. For Wi-Fi streaming you need a separate streamer or a different speaker.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes, there is a built-in phono stage, so a turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge plugs straight in. No separate preamp is needed.
How big is it?
Each cabinet is about 10.75 inches tall and 7 inches wide, so a pair fits on a desk or a bookshelf. Leave some space behind them for the rear bass port.
When is it cheapest?
Audioengine discounts the A5+ Wireless around Black Friday and the holidays. The current $399 is already near the low end of its recent range.
Where is the Audioengine A5+ Wireless cheapest?
At Audioengine, for $399.00, 20% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Audioengine A5+ Wireless?
10 stores we checked sell it, including Audioengine, Nordstrom, Best Buy, Walmart, Turntable Lab.
