Our take on the Aver CAM550 Video Conferencing Camera

The Aver CAM550 is a 4K PTZ conference camera for medium and large meeting rooms, with a 12x optical zoom, auto framing and a built-in microphone. It connects over USB and is designed to sit on a table or mount under a display. At $1,522.99 at Adorama as of November 7, 2026, it is the lowest new price among the four stores listing it, but it remains a premium room-camera price rather than a desk webcam one.

Best forMedium and large meeting roomsHybrid teams that need auto framing and speaker trackingRooms with a display or wall mount for a PTZ cameraOrganizations standardizing on USB room cameras
Pros
  • 4K sensor with 12x optical zoom for large rooms
  • Auto framing keeps presenters in view without a remote
  • Built-in microphone reduces extra cabling
  • USB connection works with common video apps without a dedicated codec
  • PTZ movement lets one camera cover a wide room
Cons
  • $1,522.99 is far above a typical desk webcam
  • Needs a room setup and mounting, not a laptop clip
  • Built-in mic is no match for a dedicated room audio system in large spaces
  • No built-in light

What reviewers say

Owner feedback on the CAM550 centers on its auto framing and zoom range in meeting rooms. Buyers see it as a room camera rather than a personal webcam, and some note that audio still needs separate gear in bigger spaces.

What people mention

  • PriceCriticisedBuyers call it expensive compared with a desktop webcam, though they treat it as room equipment.

Questions and answers

Is the Aver CAM550 worth it over a regular webcam?
For a medium or large meeting room, yes: the 12x zoom and auto framing cover people a desk webcam cannot. For one person at a laptop, a $100–$200 webcam does the same job for far less.
Does the CAM550 need special software?
No. It connects over USB and works as a standard camera in Zoom, Teams, Meet and similar apps. Auto framing and PTZ control are handled by the camera and its companion app.
What is in the box?
The camera, a power adapter, a USB cable and mounting hardware. Check the listing for the exact bundle, since some sellers ship remote or wall-mount kits separately.
How does it compare with the Aver CAM520 Pro?
The CAM550 adds 4K resolution and auto framing over the older 1080p CAM520 Pro. Choose the CAM550 for large rooms and 4K displays; the CAM520 Pro is enough for smaller rooms at a lower price.
When is the CAM550 cheapest?
Conference cameras usually dip during back-to-school and end-of-year sales. At $1,522.99 at Adorama as of November 7, 2026, it is the lowest of the four new listings, so compare against that figure.
Can it be mounted under a TV?
Yes. It supports table, wall and under-display mounting with the included bracket, and the PTZ head tilts to frame the room from either position.
Where is the Aver CAM550 Video Conferencing Camera cheapest?
At Adorama, for $1,522.99, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Aver CAM550 Video Conferencing Camera?
4 stores we checked sell it, including Adorama, Newegg, Best Buy, Antonline.
