Our take on the Backlund Rockerbox II Electric Guitar

The Backlund Rockerbox II is a semi-hollow electric guitar with a retro art-deco look, a maple body, a mahogany neck and an ebony fingerboard. It has two humbuckers, a floating Tune-O-Matic bridge and a 24 3/4-inch scale, and it weighs about 7.5 lbs. The best new price is $799 at Eastwood Guitars as of November 6, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to compare against.

Best forPlayers who want a retro-styled semi-hollowRock and blues players who like humbuckersGuitarists who prefer a short 24 3/4-inch scaleLeft-handed players, since a left-handed version is offered
Pros
  • Semi-hollow maple body gives a warmer, airier tone than a solid body
  • Two humbuckers cover rock, blues and jazz cleanly
  • Ebony fingerboard and mahogany neck are solid woods at this price
  • Short 24 3/4-inch scale and 1 5/8-inch nut suit smaller hands
  • About 7.5 lbs, light for a semi-hollow
  • Left-handed version available
Cons
  • Only one store lists it new, so there is no price competition
  • Floating Tune-O-Matic bridge can shift and needs a proper setup
  • Semi-hollow body feeds back at high gain
  • Distinctive looks are polarizing
  • Resale is uncertain for a niche brand

Questions and answers

Is the Rockerbox II worth $799?
At $799 it is priced like a mid-range semi-hollow with an ebony board and two humbuckers, which is fair for the specs. With only one new listing, you have no cheaper store to fall back on.
Is it chambered or fully hollow?
It is a semi-hollow body with a maple top, back and sides, so it has a center block and less feedback than a full hollowbody.
What is the scale length and nut width?
The scale is 24 3/4 inches and the nut is 1 5/8 inches, both on the shorter, narrower side, which suits smaller hands.
Does it come in a left-handed version?
Yes, Backlund offers the Rockerbox II in both right- and left-handed versions.
What pickups does it have?
Two humbuckers, one at the neck and one at the bridge, with a floating Tune-O-Matic bridge.
