Our take on the Ball Wide Mouth Glass Mason Jars with Lids and Bands

Ball wide-mouth mason jars in 16 oz (pint) size, sold as a set with SureTight lids and bands. The wide mouth makes filling, scooping and cleaning easier than regular-mouth jars, and the glass is freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe. The jars are BPA free and the two-piece lid seals airtight for canning and dry storage. Pricing moves with set size and seller, so compare per-jar cost rather than the sticker price alone.

Questions and answers

Are these jars actually leak-proof?
The SureTight two-piece lid gives an airtight seal when the band is tightened properly, and Ball rates them leak resistant. They are not meant for shipping liquids or turning upside down for long periods.
Can I put them in the freezer?
Yes, the glass is freezer safe. Leave headspace of about half an inch because liquid expands and can crack a full jar.
Do the lids and bands fit regular-mouth jars?
No. Wide-mouth lids and bands only fit wide-mouth jars, which have a wider opening than regular-mouth jars.
Can I microwave and dishwasher these jars?
Yes, both are safe. Remove the metal lid and band before microwaving, and expect lids to last longer if hand washed and dried.
What is included in the set?
Each jar comes with a matching lid and band. Check the listing for the jar count, since sets range from a few jars to a full case.
When is the best time to buy?
Canning season, late summer into fall, tends to bring the widest stock and the best per-jar prices. Compare the per-jar cost across set sizes before buying.
