Our take on the Bardani Spitfire 400 XL Deluxe RSTC

The Bardani Spitfire 400 XL Deluxe RSTC is a large cotton-polyester family tent with an aluminum pole frame, a 730 cm footprint and a packed weight of 42 kg. The cotton-blend fly and inner breathe better and stay quieter in wind than polyester-only tents, but they are heavier and need drying before storage. It ships with a carry bag, guylines and pegs. No current price was provided, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.

Best forFamilies or groups wanting a big, roomy base camp tentCampers who prefer breathable cotton-blend fabric over polyesterCar campers and site-based trips where 42 kg is moved by vehicleLong summer stays where wind noise and condensation matter
Pros
  • Cotton-polyester fly and inner breathe well and cut condensation
  • Aluminum poles keep the frame lighter and stiffer than steel
  • 730 cm length gives generous living and sleeping space
  • Quiet, less flappy fabric in wind than thin polyester
  • Carry bag, guylines and pegs included
Cons
  • 42 kg packed weight rules out backpacking and long carries
  • Cotton blend must be fully dried before storage or it mildews
  • Large footprint needs a big pitch and may not fit small plots
  • Polyester groundsheet is basic; a footprint adds protection
  • Two packed sizes listed (80 x 40 x 40 cm and 81 x 24 x 24 cm) — confirm which applies

Questions and answers

Is the Spitfire 400 XL Deluxe worth it?
If you camp from a car with family or friends and want space plus breathable fabric, yes. If you need to carry the tent any distance, the 42 kg weight makes it a poor fit.
How does it compare with a polyester family tent?
The cotton blend breathes better and is quieter in wind, but it is heavier and needs thorough drying. Polyester tents are lighter, cheaper and tolerate being packed damp for longer.
How big is the pitch?
The tent is 730 cm long, so measure your pitch before booking. Allow extra room for guylines and access on all sides.
Does it come with a footprint or carpet?
The listed accessories are a carry bag, guylines and pegs only. A footprint and carpet are not included, so budget for them separately.
When is it cheapest?
Family tents usually drop at end-of-season sales and in winter clearance. Track the price history and buy when it falls below the recent range.
Can one person pitch it?
At 42 kg with a long frame, pitching is far easier with two people. Plan for a helper, especially in wind.
