Is the Barebones Cowboy Fire Pit Grill worth it?

It makes sense if you want to cook over fire and like the swing-away grate design. If you only want ambiance, a plain fire bowl costs far less.

Can you grill on it, or is it just a fire pit?

You can grill on it. The cast iron grate is adjustable and locks in place, and the pole lets you swing it off the fire.

How big is the cooking area?

The grate gives 208 sq in, roughly enough for a few steaks or a dozen burgers at once. The bowl is 23 in across and 9 in deep.

Is it portable enough for camping?

It is portable in the sense that it comes apart, but at 30 lb it is a car-camping piece, not something to carry far.

Does it reduce smoke?

No. It is an open wood or charcoal pit with no smoke-reducing secondary burn, so it smokes like a normal campfire.

What comes in the box?

The fire bowl, the grill grate, and the pole. Assembly is required.

Our take on the Barebones Cowboy Fire Pit Grill - 23"

The Barebones Cowboy Fire Pit Grill is a 23-inch steel fire bowl with a cast iron adjustable grate and a swing-away pole, so you can cook over wood or charcoal and then move the grate aside. It weighs 30 lb, has 208 sq in of grate area, and breaks down for camping or backyard use. The bowl is 9 in deep and the pole brings the total height to 33 in. It is a niche, design-forward piece rather than a budget fire pit.
