Our take on the Bauer 20V Brushless 1/2-inch Drill and Driver Combo

The Bauer 20V Brushless 1/2-inch Drill and Driver Combo pairs a brushless drill with a matching impact driver, two 20V lithium-ion batteries, a rapid charger and belt clips. Brushless motors run cooler and last longer than brushed ones, and the all-metal gear construction suits regular drilling and driving. It is a house-brand kit aimed at home users and light trade work rather than daily professional use.

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over a brushed drill set?
Yes for regular use. Brushless motors are more efficient and last longer, and the impact driver covers fastening jobs a drill handles poorly.
How does it compare with a major-brand combo kit?
It costs less and covers the same two tools, but major brands offer wider battery compatibility, more service options and better resale value.
How long do the batteries last?
Expect a few hours of mixed drilling and driving per charge when new. Capacity drops over several years of regular use, and spare Bauer 20V batteries are easy to add.
Does it come with a case?
No. The box includes the drill, impact driver, two batteries, a rapid charger and belt clips, but no hard case.
Can I use other brands' 20V batteries in it?
No. It uses Bauer's own 20V battery platform, so batteries and chargers from other brands will not fit.
When is it cheapest?
House-brand cordless kits usually drop during seasonal tool sales and holiday promotions. Watch the price history and buy when it dips below its recent range.
