Is the Belleville 500 actually USMC certified?

Yes. Belleville states the 500 is U.S. Marine Corps certified and Berry Amendment compliant, and it carries the EGA emblem. That makes it acceptable for Marine Corps duty wear.

Is it really waterproof?

Yes. It uses a GORE-TEX waterproof lining, so it keeps water out in rain and wet ground. The trade-off is less breathability than an unlined boot.

How does it fit compared with other combat boots?

Belleville boots generally run true to Brannock size, and the 500 is built on a standard military last. Try your normal boot size first; the leather upper will loosen slightly with break-in.

How long does it take to break in?

Expect a week or two of regular wear. The full-grain leather and stiff sole soften with use, and wearing them around the house first helps.
