Our take on the Blue Flame

Blue Flame is a 100-count tin of non-lead airgun pellets with a diamond-shaped hard polymer tip, listed at 5.1 grains each. The light weight and pointed tip suit high-velocity .177 air rifles and pest control at short to medium range. It is a lead-free option for shooters who want to avoid lead handling or meet range rules that ban lead. No current price or price history was available to compare against its recent range.

Plinking at short to medium range with a high-velocity rifle
Pros
  • Lead-free polymer tip and body, so no lead handling
  • Light 5.1 grain weight gives high muzzle velocity in .177 rifles
  • Hard diamond-shaped tip aids penetration on small pests
  • 100 pellets per tin, a reasonable trial or sight-in quantity
  • Pointed profile feeds well in most break-barrel and PCP magazines
Cons
  • Light weight makes it more wind-sensitive than heavier domed pellets
  • Polymer tip can deform or snap off on hard targets
  • Non-lead pellets are usually pricier per shot than lead
  • Penetration-focused design is not ideal for tight group shooting at long range
  • Only one pellet count and weight listed, so no bulk or heavy options

Questions and answers

Are these pellets good for hunting?
Yes, for small pests and short to medium range. The hard polymer tip and light weight give high velocity and good penetration, but the light pellet drifts more in wind than a heavier domed pellet.
Will Blue Flame pellets work in my .177 air rifle?
They are .177 caliber, so they fit standard .177 air rifles and pistols. Check your rifle's manual for recommended pellet weight, since very low-power guns may not stabilize a 5.1 grain pointed pellet well.
Are they really lead-free?
Yes, the listing states a non-lead material for both the body and the diamond-shaped polymer tip. That makes them an option where lead pellets are banned or where you want to avoid lead exposure.
How many pellets come in a tin?
Each tin contains 100 pellets. That is enough for sighting in and a few hunting sessions, but not a bulk supply.
Why are non-lead pellets more expensive than lead?
Lead-free materials cost more to source and machine than lead, so non-lead pellets typically carry a higher price per pellet. The trade-off is avoiding lead handling and meeting lead-free range rules.
When is the best time to buy?
Pellet prices move with sales and stock, so watch for multi-tin deals and seasonal promotions at airgun retailers. Buying several tins at once usually lowers the cost per pellet.
