Our take on the Bruce&Shark 1700W Portable Carpet Cleaner Machine with Steam Hot Water

The Bruce&Shark 1700W is a portable carpet and upholstery cleaner that combines hot-water extraction with a steam mode. The 1700W motor is strong for a portable unit, and steam helps loosen set-in stains and refresh fabric without a full shampoo. At $152.99 at Wayfair as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the only price seen since November 1, 2026, so there is no cheaper recent price to wait for.

Pros
  • 1700W motor gives strong suction for a portable machine
  • Steam mode handles set-in stains and odor refresh
  • Portable body is easier to store and carry than a full-size extractor
  • Handles both carpet and upholstery
Cons
  • Small tanks mean frequent refills on large areas
  • Steam plus hot water adds weight and heat-up time
  • Not a substitute for a full-size deep cleaner on wall-to-wall carpet
  • Only one store prices it, so comparison shopping is limited

Questions and answers

Is the Bruce&Shark 1700W worth it?
It is a reasonable pick if you want steam and hot-water extraction in one portable unit under $160. For whole-room carpet cleaning, a full-size extractor will do more per fill.
How is it different from a standard carpet shampooer?
It adds a steam mode, which helps with set-in stains and odor without soaking the fabric as much. Standard shampooers rely on hot water and detergent alone.
How big are the tanks?
Bruce&Shark does not list tank sizes in the specs here. Expect several refills for a large room, since portable steam extractors typically hold under a gallon.
Can I use it on upholstery and car seats?
Yes. It is listed for upholstery, and the portable body suits stairs, sofas and car interiors better than a full-size machine.
When is the best time to buy?
The price has held at $152.99 at Wayfair since November 1, 2026, with no lower recent price. Waiting has not paid off so far; watch for holiday sales.
What comes in the box?
The listing does not detail included attachments. Check the Wayfair page for the hose, brush and solution sample before ordering.
Where is the Bruce&Shark 1700W Portable Carpet Cleaner Machine with Steam Hot Water cheapest?
At Wayfair, for $152.99, as of our latest check.
Is the Bruce&Shark 1700W Portable Carpet Cleaner Machine with Steam Hot Water at its lowest price?
Yes: $152.99 is the lowest price we've seen for it since November 1.
