Our take on the Call of Duty: Vanguard - Cross-Gen Bundle Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S (WW)

Call of Duty: Vanguard is a 2021 first-person shooter from Activision set in World War II, spanning campaigns across the Pacific, Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Front, plus multiplayer and the Zombies mode. The Cross-Gen Bundle covers both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, so one purchase works on either console. It is a full-price 2021 release, so expect it to sit well below its original $60–70 launch price at most stores now. Online multiplayer requires Xbox Live Gold, sold separately.

  • Four-mode package: campaign, multiplayer, Zombies and Warzone integration

  • Series X|S version runs at higher resolution and frame rate
  • Often discounted well below launch price
Cons
  • Online multiplayer needs Xbox Live Gold, sold separately
  • 2021 release, so the player base is smaller than in current Call of Duty titles

Questions and answers

Is it worth buying in 2024?
At a steep discount, yes, mainly for the campaign and split-screen-free multiplayer with friends. If you want an active, updated Call of Duty, a newer title is the better buy.
Does the Cross-Gen Bundle work on both Xbox One and Series X|S?
Yes. One purchase covers both generations, and your progress carries over through your Xbox account.
Do I need Xbox Live Gold to play online?
Yes. Online multiplayer requires Xbox Live Gold, which is sold separately. The campaign can be played offline.
How long is the campaign?
Roughly 6 to 8 hours on a normal difficulty, depending on how much you explore.
Is Zombies included?
Yes. Zombies ships with the game, though its content was limited at launch and expanded through later updates.
When is it cheapest?
Older Call of Duty titles drop furthest during major sales events like Black Friday and summer sales. Compare the current price against its recent low before buying.
