Our take on the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM Lens

The Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is an ultra-wide prime for Canon's full-frame RF mirrorless bodies. It is remarkably small and light at 165 g and 40.1 mm long, and its f/2.8 aperture is fast for a lens this wide. The 16mm view is very wide, so straight lines near the edges bend noticeably unless you correct them. At $259 at Abt Electronics & Appliances as of November 6, 2026, it sits near the low end of its recent range.

Best forFull-frame RF shooters who want a pocketable ultra-wideLandscape and cityscape photographersVloggers and creators shooting handheld at arm's lengthTravelers who want a wide lens without weight

Questions and answers

Is the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM worth it?
Yes, if you want a very small, fast ultra-wide for a full-frame RF camera. It is cheap for the focal length and aperture, as long as you accept distortion correction and no stabilization.
Does it fit APS-C RF cameras like the R50 or R10?
Yes, it mounts on any RF body. On APS-C it behaves like a 25.6mm lens, so it is wide but not ultra-wide.
Does it have image stabilization?
No. It relies on in-body stabilization, so pair it with a stabilized body for handheld video and slow shutter speeds.
What is in the box?
The lens and a Canon Lens Dust Cap RF. A hood and pouch are not included.
Can I use filters or a hood with it?
It takes 43mm filters. Canon sells a petal-shaped hood separately.
When is it cheapest?
It has sold near $250 to $260 in recent sales periods. At $259 at Abt Electronics & Appliances as of November 6, 2026, it is already close to its low.
Where is the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM Lens cheapest?
