If you want a metal-cased G-Shock that is thin enough for daily wear, the sapphire crystal, solar charging and radio control justify the step up. A resin G-Shock does the same timekeeping for far less if toughness matters more than finish.

How is it different from the MTG-B2000?

The B3000 is slimmer at 12.1 mm and uses a new case back that also forms the lugs and button guards. It also moves to sapphire crystal and a lighter composite band on the BD version.

Does it need a battery change?

No routine battery changes. Tough Solar charges from light, and the rechargeable cell is designed to last years; a full charge runs the watch for months in normal use.

Does it work without a phone?

Yes. Multi Band 6 radio control sets the time automatically in most of the US, Europe, Japan and China, and all functions work without the app. Bluetooth is only for easier setup and extra features.
