Our take on the CHITA 72-in 2-Seat Convertible Sofa Bed

The CHITA 72-in 2-Seat Convertible Sofa Bed is a velvet loveseat that folds flat into a sleeper, with button tufting, nailhead trim and two cup holders built into the arms. At 72 inches long it seats two comfortably and sleeps one adult or two small children. It suits small apartments, guest rooms and home offices where one piece has to do double duty. It is a budget-tier import brand, so expect a lighter frame and foam than a dedicated sleeper sofa.

Best forSmall apartments and studiosGuest rooms and home officesShoppers who want a sleeper under a few hundred dollarsBuyers who like velvet and tufted, traditional styling
Pros
  • Converts from sofa to flat sleeper without tools
  • Velvet upholstery with tufting and nailhead trim looks dressier than the price
  • Two built-in cup holders are handy for movie nights
  • 72-inch length fits through most doorways and into small rooms
  • Black velvet hides stains better than light fabrics
Cons
  • Foam is thin; not a mattress replacement for nightly sleeping
  • Velvet needs brushing and shows lint and pet hair
  • Cup holders are molded plastic and can feel cheap
  • Assembly and hardware quality are common weak points on budget imports
  • No storage compartment for bedding

Questions and answers

Is it comfortable enough to sleep on every night?
No. The fold-out surface is thin foam over a metal frame, fine for occasional guests but not for nightly sleeping. Plan on a mattress topper for regular use.
How many people does it seat and sleep?
It seats two adults at 72 inches wide. Folded flat it sleeps one adult or two children.
Does it come with the cup holders already installed?
Yes. The cup holders are built into the armrests and ship attached. Check that the arms are fully tightened after assembly so they do not wobble.
How does it compare with a dedicated sleeper sofa?
It costs far less and takes up less space, but a traditional sleeper sofa has a thicker mattress and sturdier frame. Choose this for occasional guests, not a main bed.
When is the best time to buy it?
Prices on this type of import sofa dip during Black Friday, Memorial Day and back-to-school sales. Use the price history to see whether the current price is near its low.
What is in the box?
The sofa ships flat-packed with the frame, cushions, arms, legs and hardware. Tools are usually included, but a screwdriver helps.
