Questions and answers

Will these really work at a 25-mile distance?: The 25-mile range is a theoretical maximum across open water or between mountain peaks. In typical suburban or wooded environments, expect a range of 0.5 to 2 miles.
Are these radios waterproof?: They are water-resistant, meaning they can handle splashes and light rain, but they should not be fully submerged in water.
Can I use other batteries in these units?: Yes, if the rechargeable NiMH packs run out, you can typically use standard AA alkaline batteries as a backup.
Is a license required to operate the ACXT390?: These operate on FRS/GMRS frequencies; while FRS channels do not require a license, using high-power GMRS channels may technically require an FCC license in the US.
