With the liner zipped in, it handles typical winter hiking and commuting. In sustained sub-freezing wind or deep snow, most people will want a midlayer underneath.

Can I wear the shell and liner separately?

Yes. The Interchange System zips the insulated liner in or out, so the shell works as a rain jacket and the liner as a light standalone jacket.

The outer shell is waterproof-breathable, so it sheds rain and snow. Seams and the hood are built for wet weather, but it is a hiking jacket, not a heavy storm shell.

How does the fit run?

It is a regular fit, cut to layer over a sweater. If you are between sizes or want a trimmer look, consider sizing down.
