Our take on the Core Tarps 30 Mil Extreme Heavy Duty Clear Tarp with Gromments - 7x9ft Super Clear Tarps Heavy Duty Waterproof Vinyl Tarpaulin, Transparent Tarp for Outdoor, Camping & Construction, Clear Blue

The Core Tarps 30 Mil Extreme Heavy Duty Clear Tarp is a 7 x 9 ft vinyl tarpaulin about 0.76 mm thick, with grommets along the edges and a transparent finish that lets light through. At 30 mil it is far heavier than the 5 to 12 mil polyethylene tarps sold for general yard and job-site cover, so it is built for repeated outdoor use rather than one season. It suits clear covers where you want to see what is underneath, such as greenhouse panels, equipment, lumber stacks or temporary windbreaks. No price was provided for this listing, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.

Best forCovering lumber, equipment or firewood while keeping it visibleGreenhouse, cold-frame and light-passing coversTemporary windbreaks and enclosures on job sitesCamping and outdoor shelters that need a clear roof or wall
Pros
  • 30 mil vinyl is thick and tear-resistant, well above common 5 to 12 mil poly tarps
  • Clear material lets daylight through and shows what is covered
  • Grommets along the edges allow rope and bungee tie-downs
  • Vinyl resists water and stays flexible in cold better than cheap polyethylene
  • 7 x 9 ft size fits small roofs, trailers and stacked material
Cons
  • Heavy for its size, so hanging it overhead needs solid support
  • Clear vinyl can cloud, yellow or stiffen with long UV exposure
  • No written warranty from the manufacturer
  • Grommets can pull out under high wind if the tarp is not backed by framing
  • Costs much more than a polyethylene tarp of the same size

Questions and answers

Is a 30 mil clear tarp worth it over a cheaper poly tarp?
If you need to see through the cover or reuse it season after season, yes. For a one-time ground cover, a 6 to 10 mil polyethylene tarp costs far less and does the job.
How thick is 30 mil in practical terms?
30 mil is 0.030 inch, about 0.76 mm. That is roughly three to six times the thickness of typical hardware-store poly tarps.
Will it hold up to sunlight?
Vinyl handles sun better than thin polyethylene, but clear vinyl still degrades with long UV exposure. Expect a few seasons of full sun before it clouds or stiffens.
How do I tie it down?
Use the grommets with rope or bungee cords, and back the tarp with a frame or lattice in windy spots so the grommets do not tear out.
What size area does 7 x 9 ft cover?
About 63 square feet. Measure your opening or stack first, since the grommet spacing limits how tightly you can pull it.
When is the price lowest?
Clear vinyl tarps tend to dip outside storm and harvest seasons. Track the price history here and buy when it sits near the low end of its recent range.
