Is 120 pints per day realistic for a basement?

That figure is measured at warm, humid conditions, typically around 80°F and 60% humidity. In a cool basement in the 60s, expect noticeably less, often half or less of the rated number.

Will it work in a cold garage or unheated space?

A compressor dehumidifier loses efficiency below about 41°F and can frost up. For cold rooms, a desiccant dehumidifier is the better choice.

Do I have to empty the bucket?

No. Connect the included drain hose and route it to a floor drain or sump for continuous operation. The 4-quart bucket is the fallback if gravity drainage isn't possible.

How loud is it really?

The rated 42 dB is roughly normal conversation level, and many owners find it louder in practice, especially on high fan. It suits a basement better than a bedroom.

The dehumidifier and a drain hose are the core items. Check the listing for hose length and whether casters are included, since those vary by model.

Dehumidifier prices tend to dip in late winter and early spring, before the summer humidity season, and during major sales events. Track the price history and buy below the recent average.
