Is this worth it over a laundromat?

If you wash a few small loads a week and have a sink or tub to drain into, it pays for itself in a couple of months of laundromat trips. For heavy loads or bedding, a laundromat or full-size machine is still better.

How much can it wash at once?

The wash tub is rated for up to 20 lbs, which is roughly a small load of shirts, underwear and light pants. A queen comforter or a week of towels for a family will not fit.

Does it need to be hooked up to plumbing?

No permanent hookup is needed. You fill the tub with a hose from a faucet or by bucket, and the drain hose empties into a sink, tub or floor drain.

How dry do clothes come out?

The spin tub removes most of the water, but clothes come out damp and still need line or rack drying. Expect a few hours of air drying rather than a dryer finish.

What comes in the box?

Typically the washer unit, a fill hose, a drain hose and an inlet adapter. Check that the hose reaches your faucet before buying.

Portable washers like this tend to dip during spring moving season and big sales events. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.

Our take on the Costway 20lbs Compact Mini Portable Twin Tub Washing Machine

The Costway 20 lbs Compact Mini Portable Twin Tub Washing Machine is a two-tub portable washer with a separate spin dryer, meant for apartments, dorms, RVs and small homes without a laundry hookup. The wash tub handles up to 20 lbs of laundry and the spin tub wrings water out so clothes dry faster on a line or in a small dryer. It runs on a standard household outlet and fills from a hose or by hand. It is a budget appliance, so expect plastic parts and a short hose kit rather than the build of a full-size machine.
