Is this set worth it for a home mechanic?

Yes, if you want one set that covers both SAE and metric fasteners with ratcheting convenience. It is aimed at home and light professional use, not daily heavy-duty shop work.

Does it include both SAE and metric sizes?

Yes. The 20 pieces are split across standard and metric sizing, so you get fewer wrenches in each system than a dedicated 20-piece SAE or metric set.

Does it come with a case?

No. The set ships without a case, so plan on a tool roll, wrench rack or drawer organizer.

What is the difference between 12-point and 6-point box ends?

A 12-point box end engages a fastener every 30 degrees, which helps in tight spots. A 6-point grips more of the flats and resists rounding better on stubborn bolts.

Is there a flex-head version?

This set has straight handles, not flex heads. If you need angled access, look for a flex-head ratcheting set instead.

When is the best time to buy?

Craftsman sets commonly drop during holiday sales and tool events. Check the price history on this page before buying so you know whether the current price is near the low.

Our take on the Craftsman 20-Piece Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set

A 20-piece ratcheting combination wrench set from Craftsman covering both SAE and metric sizes, with 12-point box ends and straight handles. The ratcheting box end lets you turn a fastener without lifting the wrench off, which speeds up work in tight spots. No case is included, so storage is on you. It holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating from 582 ratings, a strong score for a mid-priced set.
