Is the Cuisinart STM-1000 worth $199.95?

It is worth it if you steam large batches often and want presets and keep-warm. For occasional steaming, a cheaper stovetop or basic electric steamer does the job.

How much food does it hold?

The capacity is 1.32 gallons, roughly 5 quarts, enough for several servings of vegetables or a full batch of dumplings.

Are the parts dishwasher safe?

Yes, the removable steaming parts are dishwasher safe. The base with the heating element should be wiped by hand.

Does it have a keep-warm setting?

Yes. A keep-warm function holds food at serving temperature after the timer ends.

How often should I descale it?

In hard-water areas, descale every few weeks or whenever white scale builds up, using a vinegar and water run.
