Our take on the Dell Precision 5690 16-inch OLED Mobile Workstation

The Dell Precision 5690 is a 16-inch mobile workstation with a 3840x2400 OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H (16 cores), 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 2 TB SSD, running Windows 11 Pro. It targets CAD, engineering and content work that needs a color-accurate high-resolution screen and plenty of RAM in a portable chassis. The OLED panel runs at 60Hz, so it is built for detail and color rather than fast motion. Its best new price is $2,999.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026, the only new listing found.

Pros
  • 3840x2400 OLED panel gives sharp text and deep contrast
  • 64 GB LPDDR5X handles heavy multitasking and large models
  • 16-core Core Ultra 9 185H with 2 TB SSD covers demanding workloads
  • 16-inch size keeps it more portable than larger Precision models
  • Windows 11 Pro included for domain and management features
Cons
  • 60Hz refresh rate is modest for a premium display
  • LPDDR5X memory is soldered, so RAM cannot be upgraded later
  • OLED screens carry long-term burn-in risk with static UI elements
  • High-resolution OLED and a 16-core chip draw power, so battery life is limited
  • Workstation pricing: $2,999.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026

Questions and answers

Is the OLED screen worth it over the standard panel?
Yes for color-critical work: 3840x2400 OLED gives deeper contrast and wider gamut than typical IPS panels. The trade-off is higher power draw and possible burn-in with static toolbars.
Can I upgrade the RAM or storage later?
RAM is soldered LPDDR5X, so 64 GB is fixed at purchase. The 2 TB SSD is the storage to configure up front; check service access before assuming it is user-replaceable.
How does it compare with the Precision 5680?
Both are 16-inch Precision models with similar chassis and OLED options. The 5690 moves to the Core Ultra 9 185H, so expect better efficiency and newer integrated graphics rather than a redesign.
Is 60Hz a problem for this laptop?
For CAD, photo and video work, 60Hz is fine and keeps power use down. If you also game or want smoother scrolling, a high-refresh panel would suit you better.
What is a fair price for this configuration?
The only new price found is $2,999.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026. Compare against other 64 GB, 2 TB OLED workstations before buying, since this is a single listing.
Does it come with Windows 11 Pro?
Yes, Windows 11 Pro is included, which adds BitLocker, Remote Desktop host and domain join over the Home edition.
Where is the Dell Precision 5690 16-inch OLED Mobile Workstation cheapest?
At Newegg, for $2,999.99, as of our latest check.
