Is this a drill/driver or an impact driver?

It is a drill/driver with a 1/2-inch chuck and an adjustable clutch. It is not an impact driver, so it does not deliver the concussive pulses used for heavy lag bolts.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

Yes. The kit includes a DeWalt 20V Max battery and a charger, so you can use it right away.

Will it work with my other DeWalt 20V Max batteries?

Yes. It runs on the DeWalt 20V Max battery system, so any 20V Max pack you already own will fit.

Is it too heavy for overhead work?

It weighs more than compact 12V drills, so long stretches of overhead drilling will tire your arm faster. For occasional overhead work it is fine.

Is it worth it over a cheaper brushed drill?

The brushless motor should last longer and run more efficiently, and the kit includes a battery and charger. If you drill often, the brushless version is the better long-term buy.

Our take on the DeWalt 20-Volt Max Cordless Drill/Driver Kit

The DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Drill/Driver Kit is a brushless drill/driver built on DeWalt's 20V Max battery system, so it shares batteries with the brand's other 20V tools. It has a 1/2-inch chuck that takes standard drill and driver bits, and a clutch with multiple settings for driving screws without stripping them. The kit includes a 20V Max battery and charger, so it is ready to use out of the box. It is heavier than compact 12V models, which matters if you drill overhead or work in tight spaces.
