Our take on the DeWalt 20-Volt MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack (7-Pack)

This is a seven-pack of DeWalt's 20-Volt MAX XR lithium-ion batteries, each rated at 5.0Ah. The XR line uses higher-capacity cells than DeWalt's standard 20V packs, so tools run longer between swaps. A 5.0Ah pack charges in about 90 minutes on a DeWalt fast charger. Buying seven at once is aimed at crews and heavy users who keep several tools loaded at the same time.

Pros
  • 5.0Ah capacity gives longer runtime than DeWalt's 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah packs
  • Fits the whole 20V MAX lineup, including drills, saws and impact drivers
  • Charges in about 90 minutes on a compatible DeWalt charger
  • Seven packs keep multiple tools loaded without swapping
  • Lithium-ion cells hold charge well in storage
Cons
  • Seven packs is a large upfront cost most home users don't need
  • 5.0Ah packs are heavier than smaller-capacity batteries
  • Charge time depends on the charger; a slow charger takes longer
  • No charger or tool included in this pack

Questions and answers

Is the 5.0Ah pack worth it over the 2.0Ah?
Yes for saws, grinders and other high-draw tools. The 5.0Ah pack roughly doubles runtime over a 2.0Ah pack, though it weighs more.
Does it fit all DeWalt 20V MAX tools?
It fits tools in the 20V MAX line, which includes most current DeWalt cordless drills, drivers and saws. It does not fit 12V MAX or FlexVolt-only tools.
How long does it take to charge?
About 90 minutes per pack on a DeWalt fast charger. A standard charger will take longer.
Is a charger included?
No. The pack contains seven batteries only; you need a DeWalt 20V MAX charger you already own or buy separately.
When is the best time to buy?
Multi-packs like this tend to drop around major sales events and holiday promotions. Check the price history before buying.
What do buyers say about the DeWalt 20-Volt MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack (7-Pack)?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 3,300 ratings.
