Is the DeWalt DCN650D1 worth it over a pneumatic nailer?

For trim work in finished or occupied homes, yes. You skip the compressor, hose and gas, which saves setup time and avoids dragging a hose through rooms. If you do high-volume production work in a shop, a pneumatic nailer is cheaper and lighter.

What nails does it use?

It takes 15-gauge angled finish nails from 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches. It is not a brad nailer or a framing nailer, so it will not drive 16-gauge straight or 18-gauge brads.

How long does the battery last?

The included 2.0 Ah battery handles light trim jobs but drains quickly on long runs of baseboard or flooring. A larger 20V MAX pack, such as a 4.0 or 5.0 Ah, extends runtime noticeably.

The kit includes the DCN650 nailer, one 20V MAX 2.0 Ah battery, a charger and a kit bag. Nails are not included.

Is it too heavy for overhead work?

It is heavier than a pneumatic finish nailer, and overhead crown molding is where owners notice it most. For long overhead runs, plan breaks or use a lighter tool.

Cordless nailer kits tend to drop during holiday sales and DeWalt promotions, often bundled with extra batteries. Watch the price history for dips rather than buying at list price.

Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX 15GA Angled Finish Nailer Kit DCN650D1

The DeWalt DCN650D1 is a cordless 15-gauge angled finish nailer that drives 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 inch nails for trim, crown molding, casing, baseboards and hardwood flooring. It runs on DeWalt 20V MAX batteries with a brushless motor, so there is no compressor, hose or gas cartridge. The kit includes the nailer, a 2.0 Ah battery, a charger and a kit bag. It is a proven trim tool, but the small 2.0 Ah battery and the premium cordless price are the main trade-offs.
