Is the DCP580B worth it over a corded planer?

If you already own DeWalt 20V MAX batteries, yes: you get brushless power and no cord for trim and door work. For heavy, continuous stock removal, a corded or benchtop planer is cheaper per pass.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

No. The DCP580B is a bare tool. You need a 20V MAX battery and charger, or buy a kit version that includes them.

How deep can it cut in one pass?

Depth adjusts in 1/256 in. increments, and the rebate capacity is 5/64 in. Take light passes on hardwoods rather than forcing a deep cut.

Can it connect to a dust bag or vacuum?

Yes, DeWalt offers a compatible dust bag and it accepts a hose for dust extraction. Neither is included with the bare tool.

What is the planing width?

3-1/4 in. That covers door edges and most trim, but wider boards need multiple passes or a larger planer.

Bare-tool prices tend to dip during DeWalt promotions and holiday sales. Compare the bare tool against kit bundles, since a kit can cost less per usable tool if you need batteries.

Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Cordless Brushless 3-1/4 in. Planer

The DeWalt DCP580B is a cordless 3-1/4 in. hand planer built on the 20V MAX battery system. Its brushless motor holds speed under load, and the depth knob adjusts in 1/256 in. steps with a 5/64 in. rebate capacity. At 6.8 lbs. it is light enough to carry around a jobsite without a cord. It is sold as a bare tool, so battery and charger are extra unless you already own 20V MAX packs.
