Our take on the DeWalt DCS384B Reciprocating Saw Kit W/ FREE DCB205-2C 5Ah Battery Kit

The DeWalt DCS384B is a 20V MAX XR brushless reciprocating saw bundled with a two-battery 5.0Ah kit and charger. It has a 1-1/8 in stroke, up to 3,000 SPM, a counterbalance mechanism to cut vibration, a keyless lever blade clamp and a pivoting shoe. The saw weighs about 7.7 lb, so it is a cordless tool for framing, plumbing cuts and light demolition rather than all-day overhead work. At $279 at The Home Depot as of November 4, 2026, the bundle price includes two 5.0Ah batteries and a charger, which is the main reason to buy it as a kit rather than bare tool.

Questions and answers

Is the DCS384B worth it over the bare tool?
If you do not already own 20V MAX batteries, the kit is the better buy: two 5.0Ah packs and a charger cost more separately than the gap between bare tool and kit. If you have several batteries, the bare tool saves money.
How does it compare with the older DCS367?
The DCS384B adds a counterbalance mechanism for less vibration and a keyless lever blade clamp. Both are 20V MAX brushless saws with a 1-1/8 in stroke, so the DCS384B is the smoother, more refined pick.
How many cuts per charge?
DeWalt rates it at up to 102 cuts per charge, which depends on the material and blade. Expect fewer cuts in dense or wet wood and more in light trim and PVC.
Does it cut metal and PVC?
Yes, with the right blade. The included blade is for wood, so add a bi-metal blade for pipe and conduit and a carbide or specialty blade for PVC and demolition work.
What is in the box?
One DCS384 saw, one wood cutting blade, two 20V MAX 5.0Ah batteries and one charger. No case is listed.
When is it cheapest?
DeWalt 20V MAX kits usually drop around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-year clearance. The best new price was $279 at The Home Depot as of November 4, 2026; watch for battery-bundle promotions after that.
