Is the DEWALT DW840 worth it?

For heavy 7-inch cutting and grinding, yes. It delivers 13 amps and 8,500 rpm at $202.95 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026. If you mostly do light finishing, a smaller variable-speed grinder suits you better.

Does the DW840 have variable speed?

No. It runs at a fixed 8,500 rpm, so you control speed with disc choice and pressure rather than a dial.

What discs does the DW840 use?

It takes 7-inch discs with a 5/8-11 threaded arbor. That covers most cutting and grinding wheels sold for 7-inch angle grinders.

What is in the box with the DW840?

The grinder, a side handle and a wheel guard. No battery, charger or discs are included, since it is a corded tool.

Is the DW840 good for concrete or masonry?

Yes, with the right diamond or masonry wheel. The 13-amp motor and 8,500 rpm handle 7-inch diamond blades for concrete and stone, though dust control is on you.

When is the DW840 cheapest?

Only one store lists it new at $202.95 as of November 5, 2026, so there is little price competition. Watch for DEWALT promotions and bundled-disc deals rather than expecting a lower base price.

Our take on the DEWALT DW840

The DEWALT DW840 is a corded 7-inch angle grinder with a 13-amp, 120-volt motor that spins at 8,500 rpm. It is built for heavy stock removal and cutting with large 7-inch discs, not for light trim work. The 6-foot cord and 12.3-ounce body keep it manageable for a full-size grinder. Its best new price is $202.95 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no recent price range to compare against.
