Is the DCD706 worth it over a full-size 18V hammer drill?

Yes if you mostly drill wood, metal and small masonry holes in tight spaces. For regular concrete drilling or deck building, an 18V drill gives more power and a larger chuck.

Does it come with a battery?

The listing at $87.39 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 is the bare tool. It includes a belt clip but no battery or charger, so you need DeWalt 12V Max batteries.

What size bits does it take?

It has a 3/8-inch keyless ratcheting chuck, so it takes bits up to 3/8-inch shanks. That covers most drill and driver bits but not large hole saws or 1/2-inch shank bits.

How does it compare to the DCD701?

The DCD701 is the drill/driver version without hammer mode. The DCD706 adds the 25,500 BPM hammer function for light masonry, at a small weight cost.

When is the best time to buy?

Bare-tool prices on this model move with DeWalt promotions and holiday sales. The current best new price is $87.39 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it new.
