Our take on the Diablo Assorted Sanding Belt Pack

The Diablo Assorted Sanding Belt Pack is a five-belt set of 3 in. x 21 in. belts in 50, 80 and 120 grit, made with a zirconium blend abrasive on cloth backing and Endura-Bond resin bonding. The mix lets you go from stock removal to a finish pass without buying separate packs. It suits compact belt sanders that take 3 x 21 belts. At 4.1 out of 5 from 220 ratings, reception is solid but not glowing.

Best forOwners of 3 in. x 21 in. belt sandersWoodworkers who want coarse-to-fine grits in one packLight metal sanding and deburringSmall shops that go through belts quickly
Pros
  • Three grits (50, 80, 120) cover stock removal through finishing
  • Zirconium blend abrasive holds up on wood and metal
  • Cloth backing resists tearing and edge wear
  • Endura-Bond resin bond is built for heat and load
  • Five belts per pack, so spares are on hand
Cons
  • Only five belts total, so each grit gets just one or two
  • 3 x 21 in. fits compact sanders only, not 4 x 24 or 3 x 18 machines
  • Assorted pack means you can't stock up on one grit
  • Zirconium is not the longest-lived abrasive for heavy metal work

Questions and answers

Is this pack worth it?
Yes if you own a 3 x 21 belt sander and want coarse, medium and fine grits in one purchase. The per-belt price is reasonable for zirconium, but you get only five belts.
Will these fit my belt sander?
They fit sanders that take 3 in. x 21 in. belts. Measure your machine's belt size before buying; 4 x 24 and 3 x 18 sanders need different belts.
What grits are in the pack?
The pack mixes 50, 80 and 120 grit. Use 50 for stock removal, 80 for shaping and 120 for a finish pass before staining or painting.
Can I use these belts on metal?
Yes, the zirconium blend and cloth backing suit light metal sanding and deburring. Expect faster wear on steel than on wood, and avoid loading the belt with soft metal.
How many belts come in a pack?
Five belts total across the three grits. That means one or two belts per grit, so heavy users will want a second pack or single-grit refills.
When is it cheapest?
Multi-packs like this usually drop during store sanding and abrasives promotions and around project-season sales. Compare the per-belt price across stores rather than the pack price alone.
