It has no additives and is NSF certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60, so it is safe for softened drinking water. Solar salt dissolves cleanly and leaves low insoluble residue, which suits most softeners. Questions and answers

Is this the right salt for my water softener?
Yes for standard ion-exchange softeners that use sodium chloride. It is not for potassium-chloride systems or salt-free conditioners.
How much salt does a two-pack cover?
Two 40 lb bags is 80 lb total. A typical four-person home uses about 8 to 12 lb a week, so expect roughly two to three months per two-pack.
Is it safe for drinking water?
Yes. It is NSF certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 and has no additives, so the softened water meets drinking-water standards.
Solar salt or pellet salt, which is better?
Solar crystals dissolve cleanly and cost less per bag. Pellets are denser and less likely to bridge in a damp brine tank, so some owners prefer them for humid basements.
When is the price lowest?
Softener salt tends to dip in spring and early summer and rise before winter. The only new price found was $61.59 at eBay as of November 4, 2026.
What is in the box?
Two 40 lb plastic bags of solar water softener salt crystals. Nothing else is included.
