Our take on the DJI Osmo+ with 7x Zoom Camera

The DJI Osmo+ is a handheld 3-axis gimbal camera released in August 2016. It combines a Zenmuse X3 Zoom camera with a 3.5x optical zoom (7x with digital) and shoots 4K video and 12 MP stills. The gimbal stabilizes footage while you walk, and the zoom lets you frame distant subjects without moving closer. It is an older model, so check that the price reflects its age against newer Osmo and Pocket cameras.

Questions and answers

Is the DJI Osmo+ still worth buying?
Only at a low used price. Modern phone gimbals and the DJI Osmo Pocket are smaller and shoot better low-light video. The Osmo+ still makes sense if you need optical zoom in a stabilized handheld.
How much zoom does it have?
It has a 3.5x optical zoom, marketed as 7x with digital zoom. Optical zoom keeps detail; digital zoom crops and softens the image.
Does it shoot 4K?
Yes, it records 4K video and takes 12 MP photos. Frame rates at 4K are limited compared with newer cameras.
What is in the box?
Bundles vary. The standard kit includes the gimbal, camera, battery, charger and a case; some listings add a microSD card or extra battery, so check the bundle.
How long does the battery last?
Roughly an hour of recording per charge when new. Batteries from 2016 may have lost capacity, so budget for a replacement.
Where is the DJI Osmo+ with 7x Zoom Camera cheapest?
At eBay, for $124.06, as of our latest check.
