Is the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake worth it?

If you want both classic games with modern visuals and conveniences, yes. If you only care about Dragon Quest II, or dislike old-school grinding, wait for a sale.

Do I need to play Dragon Quest III first?

No. The trilogy's story order is III, then I, then II, but each game stands alone. Playing III HD-2D first gives context for the Erdrick lore.

How long are the two games?

Dragon Quest I runs about 10 hours and Dragon Quest II about 20 to 25, so roughly 30 to 35 hours combined for a first playthrough.

Does it work on the original Switch?

This listing is the Switch 2 version. A separate Switch release exists; check the platform label before buying, since the Switch 2 edition is priced higher.

No. It is a single-player game with no online or co-op modes.

What languages are included?

English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish text, with English packaging.

Our take on the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake - Nintendo Switch 2

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake bundles the first two Dragon Quest games, rebuilt in the HD-2D style of Octopath Traveler with 3D diorama backgrounds and 2D pixel characters. It follows the 2024 Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and completes the Erdrick trilogy on modern hardware. The Switch 2 version runs the same content as other platforms, with English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish text. It is a single-player RPG aimed at series veterans and newcomers who want the series' origins in a modern coat of paint.
