Is the Echo 21-inch self-propelled mower worth it?

It suits buyers who want a simple gas mower with variable-speed drive and three discharge modes. At $480 it is at the top of its recent range, and its 3.4 out of 5 rating means you should weigh reliability complaints.

Does it need priming or choking to start?

No. The Ready Start system handles that, so you just pull the cord. It is pull start only, with no electric start.

Can it bag, mulch and side discharge?

Yes, all three. It ships set up for one mode and you switch the rear bag, mulch plug or side chute as needed.

What cutting heights does it offer?

Seven positions from 1.25 inches to 4 inches, adjusted at the wheels.

How does it compare with a battery mower?

It has more sustained power and no recharge time, but you deal with gas, oil changes and seasonal storage. A battery mower is quieter and needs less maintenance.

When is the best time to buy it?

Gas mowers usually discount in late summer and fall as the season ends. At $480 as of November 5, 2026, it is at the high end of its range, so waiting for a markdown is reasonable.
