Our take on the Eclio Folding Electric Bike for Adults

The Eclio is a folding Class 2 electric bike with a 400W geared hub motor, a 48V 14Ah battery and 14-inch wheels on a carbon steel frame. It folds for storage and transit, runs full suspension and disc brakes, and tops out at 20 mph with a claimed 50-mile range. It is a small-wheel commuter rather than a trail bike, and its 265 lb load limit and 7-hour charge time suit short daily trips.

Questions and answers

Is the Eclio worth it for a daily commute?
For short trips under about 10 miles each way on paved roads, yes. It folds, has suspension and disc brakes, and the 400W motor handles city speeds. For longer or faster commutes, a larger-wheel bike rides better.
How fast does it go and does it need a license?
It is Class 2, limited to 20 mph with throttle and pedal assist. That class generally needs no license or registration in most US states, but check local rules.
How long does the battery last and how long to charge?
The 48V 14Ah battery is claimed at up to 50 miles, realistically less with throttle use and hills. A full charge takes about 7 hours.
How big is it when folded and how much does it weigh?
It uses 14-inch wheels and a folding carbon steel frame, so it packs small enough for a closet or trunk. Expect it to be heavy for a folder because of the steel frame and battery.
What comes in the box and how much assembly is needed?
It ships partly assembled, so expect to fit the front wheel, handlebars, pedals and seat and to check brake adjustment. A basic tool kit is usually included; confirm with the seller.
When is the price likely to be lowest?
Folding e-bikes tend to discount around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and spring clearance. Track the price history here and buy when it dips below the recent average.
