Questions and answers

Is the Edifier R990BT worth it at $84.99?
At $84.99 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable buy for desk listening. You get powered speakers with Bluetooth and RCA and no need for an amp. Expect modest volume and bass, not room-filling sound.
Do I need an amplifier or receiver?
No. The R990BT is an active speaker set, so one speaker houses the amplification and you plug the source straight in. That makes it simpler than passive bookshelf speakers.
What can I connect to it?
Bluetooth for phones and laptops, and RCA for wired sources such as a computer, TV or a turntable with a built-in phono preamp. There is no USB, optical or HDMI input.
Is 24 W loud enough for a living room?
It suits a desk, bedroom or small room. For a large living room or party levels, a higher-powered set will serve you better.
Does it come with cables?
The set includes the two speakers and the cable linking them. Check the box contents for an RCA cable before buying if you plan to use a wired source.
When is the best time to buy?
Edifier's budget speakers often drop during Black Friday and back-to-school sales. At $84.99 it is already near the low end of its recent range, so waiting has limited upside.
Where is the Edifier R990BT Bluetooth Active Bookshelf Speakers 2.0 cheapest?
At Best Buy, for $84.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Edifier R990BT Bluetooth Active Bookshelf Speakers 2.0?
