Our take on the Encore Edge 48" Commercial Zero-Turn Lawn Mower

The Encore Edge 48 is a commercial zero-turn mower with a 23 hp Kawasaki engine, a fabricated 8-gauge steel deck and Hydro-Gear ZT 3200 hydrostatic drives. It runs three blades at 18,500 ft/min, cuts from 1 to 4.75 inches, and carries 9.5 gallons of fuel for long days without refueling. A suspension seat and 9 mph top speed suit it to full-time mowing crews rather than large lawns.

Best forLandscaping crews mowing several properties a day
Owners of large acreage who want commercial-grade build
Buyers who want a Kawasaki engine and serviceable spindles
Operators who want a suspension seat for long shifts
Pros
  • Fabricated 8-gauge deck resists dents and wear
  • 23 hp Kawasaki engine is a proven commercial powerplant
  • 9.5-gallon tank means fewer fuel stops
  • Greaseable steel spindles can be serviced, not just replaced
  • Suspension seat and 9 mph forward speed cut operator fatigue
  • Hydro-Gear ZT 3200 drives are common and easy to get serviced
Cons
  • 48-inch deck is narrow for wide-open commercial turf
  • No mulch kit or bagger listed as included
  • 9.5 gallons of fuel adds weight and cost at fill-up
  • Air-cooled engine needs regular filter and oil attention in heavy use
  • Commercial build means a higher price than residential zero-turns

Questions and answers

Is the Encore Edge 48 worth it over a residential zero-turn?
For daily commercial mowing, yes. The fabricated 8-gauge deck, greaseable spindles and ZT 3200 drives are built for far more hours than residential decks and transmissions. For a single large lawn, a residential mower costs much less and will last years.
How does the 48-inch deck compare with a 52- or 60-inch model?
A 48-inch deck fits through narrower gates and trims tighter around beds, but covers less ground per pass. Crews mowing open acreage usually gain time with a wider deck; properties with tight access favor the 48.
What maintenance does the Kawasaki engine need?
It has both an air filter and an oil filter, so plan on regular oil and filter changes plus air filter cleaning in dusty conditions. Grease the spindles on schedule; that is the main reason they are greaseable.
How fast is it and how much fuel does it hold?
Top speed is 9 mph forward and 4 mph in reverse. The 9.5-gallon tank lets a crew run most of a day between fill-ups, depending on load and conditions.
What comes in the box?
The mower ships with its 23 hp Kawasaki engine, 48-inch fabricated deck and suspension seat. Mulch kits, baggers and striping rollers are typically sold separately, so confirm with the seller before ordering.
