Is the 48-pack worth it over smaller packs?

At $27.99 for 48 cells, you pay about 58 cents each, which is cheaper per battery than most 4- and 8-packs. It makes sense if you go through AAs steadily; otherwise the cells will sit for years before use.

How does Energizer MAX compare with Energizer Ultimate Lithium?

MAX is a standard alkaline for remotes, toys and flashlights. Ultimate Lithium lasts longer, weighs less and handles cold and high-drain devices better, but costs several times more per cell.

How long can these sit in storage?

Energizer rates MAX for up to 10 years of shelf life in storage. Keep them in a dry place at room temperature and leave them in the pack until needed.

Will they leak in devices I rarely use?

MAX has a leak-resistant design, but any alkaline can leak if left in a drained device for months. Pull batteries from seasonal toys and flashlights you store.

Are these rechargeable?

No. MAX is a single-use alkaline cell at 1.5V. For rechargeable AAs, look at Energizer Recharge or a NiMH set with a charger.

When is the price lowest?

Bulk AA packs tend to drop during back-to-school and holiday sales and around Black Friday. The current $27.99 at BJ's Wholesale Club as of November 4, 2026 is a typical bulk price, so compare per-cell cost across the 8 stores listing it.

Our take on the Energizer MAX AA Alkaline Batteries (48-Pack)

Energizer MAX AA is the brand's mainstream alkaline line, sold here as a 48-pack of 1.5V AA cells rated at 3000 mAh. MAX is designed to hold power for up to 10 years in storage and to resist leaking in partly used devices, which is the main reason to pick it over a bargain alkaline. The best new price is $27.99 at BJ's Wholesale Club as of November 4, 2026, with 8 stores selling it new. That works out to about 58 cents a cell, a normal bulk-pack level rather than a deep discount.
