Our take on the Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar & Stain Remover

Fels-Naptha is a heavy-duty laundry bar soap sold in a two-bar pack, used for pretreating stains and hand-washing. It is a longtime household staple for grass, grease, collar grime and ring-around-the-collar. The best new price is $8.49 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no cheaper alternative to compare against.

Questions and answers

Is Fels-Naptha safe for all fabrics?
It is best on sturdy cottons and workwear. Avoid wool, silk and anything labeled dry-clean only, and test colored items first because it can fade dyes.
How do I use it as a stain remover?
Wet the bar and the stain, rub the soap into the fabric, let it sit a few minutes, then wash as usual. Rinse well to avoid residue.
Can I use it in a washing machine?
It is a pretreater and hand-washing soap, not a full machine detergent. Use it on stains before a normal wash cycle.
What does it smell like?
It has a strong, clean soap scent that many describe as old-fashioned. The smell can linger, so rinse thoroughly.
How many bars do I get?
The pack contains two bars. Stored dry, a bar lasts through many pretreating sessions.
Is $8.49 a good price?
Only one store lists it new at $8.49 as of November 7, 2026, so there is no competing price to compare. Judge it against what you would pay per use, since two bars last a long time.
Where is the Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar & Stain Remover cheapest?
At Walmart, for $8.49, as of our latest check.
