Our take on the Field Controls Clearwave CW-125 Water Conditioner

The Clearwave CW-125 is a salt-free electronic water conditioner that wraps around a pipe and treats hard water with electromagnetic waves. It handles up to 28 gpm for a whole house, plugs into 18 VAC, and draws about 5 watts. It does not soften water or remove minerals, so it is a scale-control device, not a softener. The best new price is $106.06 at PartsHnC as of November 4, 2026, with 6 stores listing it new.

Questions and answers

Does the Clearwave CW-125 soften water?
No. It is a salt-free electronic conditioner that targets scale, not a softener. Hardness minerals stay in the water.
Is it worth it over a real water softener?
Only if you want to avoid salt, brine and plumbing work. A softener removes hardness minerals; the Clearwave does not, so pick a softener if you want softer-feeling water.
What is the maximum flow rate?
28 gpm, which covers most whole-house demand. Homes with very high simultaneous flow should check their peak rate.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. It is a DIY wrap-on install with no tools and no pipe cutting. You do need an outlet nearby for the 18 VAC adapter.
Does it work on any pipe?
The listing notes compatibility with stainless steel pipes. Check your pipe material before buying, since the coil wraps around the pipe.
