Will it fit my playpen?

It measures 80 by 70 inches, so it suits large square or wide playpens. Measure the inside floor of your pen first; a standard 50-inch pen will leave a lot of mat bunched or trimmed.

Is it thick enough for a crawling baby?

The high-density foam gives moderate cushioning over hard floors, enough for sitting and crawling. It is not a thick crash mat, so do not expect it to soften a fall from standing height.

The printed foam surface can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. It is not waterproof, so spills should be blotted quickly before they soak in.

Does it stay flat or curl at the edges?

Foam mats usually arrive rolled or folded and need a day or two to flatten. Laying it print side down with weight on the corners speeds this up.

Is it safe for teething babies?

It is a floor pad, not a teether, and foam edges can be chewed. Check the seams and remove the mat if the cover or foam starts to break apart.

When is the best time to buy?

Prices on play mats tend to dip during baby events and end-of-season sales. Check the price history on this page before buying to see whether the current price is near its low.

Our take on the Fillikid Playpen insert XL

The Fillikid Playpen Insert XL is a 80 by 70 inch foam mat made to line the floor of a large baby playpen. The high-density foam adds cushioning over hard floors, and it comes in printed themes such as World Map, Undersea World, City and Giraffe. At 4XL size it suits big square playpens rather than standard rectangular ones, so measure the pen's interior before ordering. It is a floor pad, not a standalone mat with raised edges.
