Our take on the France & Son Travertine-Clad Monolith Rectangular Coffee Table

A rectangular coffee table from France & Son with a solid travertine stone top set on a stainless steel leg frame. It measures 31.5 inches long, 15.75 inches deep and 13.5 inches high, so it suits a compact sofa or a pair of lounge chairs rather than a large sectional. The travertine top gives it a heavy, natural-stone look that stands out in a room. No current price was provided, so compare store listings before buying.

Best forSmall living rooms and apartmentsBuyers who want a natural stone statement piecePairing with a two- or three-seat sofaModern or minimalist interiors
Pros
  • Real travertine stone top, not a veneer or faux finish
  • Stainless steel legs hold up better than painted wood
  • Compact 31.5 x 15.75 inch footprint fits tight spaces
  • Low 13.5 inch height works with most sofas
  • Rectangular shape leaves clean lines against a wall
Cons
  • Travertine is porous and stains without sealing
  • Stone top makes it heavy and awkward to move alone
  • No storage or shelf underneath
  • Small surface area for books, trays and drinks
  • Stone and metal can chip or scratch hard floors

Questions and answers

Is the travertine top real stone?
Yes. The tabletop is listed as travertine, a natural stone, over a stainless steel frame. Expect color and veining to vary from one piece to the next.
Does travertine need sealing?
Travertine is porous, so seal it before use and reseal periodically. Wipe spills quickly, especially wine, coffee and citrus, to avoid stains.
Will it fit in front of my sofa?
At 31.5 inches long and 15.75 inches deep, it suits sofas up to about 70 inches wide. Larger sectionals will leave it looking small.
How much does it weigh and can one person move it?
A solid travertine top of this size is heavy, and the listed specs give no weight. Plan on two people for delivery and any repositioning.
What is included in the box?
The listing covers one table with the travertine top and stainless steel legs. Chairs and other items are not included.
When is the best time to buy?
Furniture prices at France & Son and other retailers often drop during seasonal sales. Check the price history before buying.
